At Garden Suburb Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.

Our extra-curricular highlights

Sporting Opportunities

Students can try out for PSSA sporting teams such as the Dunford Cup Netball and Soccer teams to play for their school team.

Creative and performing arts

Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. We offer an by-annual school musical or art show as well as the opportunity to participate in the Newcastle and Central Coast areas performing arts extravaganza, Star Struck.

Debating and Public speaking

Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking in class competitions. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.

Premier's Spelling Bee Challenge

Students are encouraged to practice at home using the word lists ready for in-class spelling bee competitions. The top 2 students in Years 3-6 get the opportunity to complete Junior and Senior finals in our school hall.

Home Reading Cards

Students keep a record of the books they read at home and are recognised for their efforts with certificates, bookmarks, book club vouchers, and the much-coveted afternoon tea with the Principal, celebrating their hard work throughout the school year.

Trips and excursions

Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world. Recently, our younger students have had a day exploring the Awabakal Nature Reserve at Dudley and our older students have had overnight trips to the Great Aussie Bush Camp and Canberra.

Cultural Activities

Students develop a strong sense of connection and knowledge of their cultural environment through activities in school and on excursions.
