Information - Bushfires
Garden Suburb Public School will be operational on Tuesday 12th November. The school is classified as ‘Bushfire Prone’ and we have measures in place to ensure the safety of our students at all times.
Please find attached the Information for Parents and Carers in the event of a bushfire in our local area.
Today the school will complete a Bushfire Emergency Evacuation Drill as a part of our regular WHS evacuation drill schedule.
When students arrive at school tomorrow they may notice that there are a number of hoses and buckets out and ready to wet down the surrounds throughout the day. The nature play area will be packed up for the day.
We look forward to attending school in our casual clothes to raise money for the hundreds of families devastated by the recent bushfires. Students are asked to bring in a gold coin donation. Students will be able to purchase an ice cream for $1 if they wish.
Weather conditions are expected to worsen tomorrow. The school will continue to monitor the weather and air quality and may make the decision to offer indoor play activities including movies.
Staying up to date with local information
It is important to stay up to date with what is happening in your local area. We recommend:
· Installing or updating the “Fires Near Me NSW” app on your phone to ensure that it is latest version
· monitoring local media (TV, ABC radio, social media)
· checking the NSW RFS website or calling RFS on 1800 679 737

Supporting our Students
At times when children are exposed to images on media sources they can begin to experience a degree of anxiety associated with a sense of loss of security and safety. The school can access the support of the school counsellor if a student is experiencing difficulty or students can call organisations such as:
Kids Helpline: 1800551800 or kidshelp.com.au
